A new software is out called Scanguard that boasts a suite of products to help keep your system malware free, performance booster, firewall, file cleaner, browser maintenance, file maintenance, parental control...
We're pretty sure that it does your dishes, laundry, takes the pet outside, cleans the bathroom and picks the kids up from school as well...
...but seriously, programs like these are gimmicks at best and have been tried time and time again...
Symancrap also went this route with their software and coincidentally enough was the beginning of their downfall...
Programs like Scanguard lose sight of the objective which is Security...
Pretty soon they'll want to put in a disk defragmenter program, driver update, windows update link or some half assed encryption program...
Programs like this feed off the lazy that want a one button do it all solution center, but what ends up happening is that they get in the way because it's not fast enough...
It's not enough that it has a one button clean up, it also has to do everything within 5 seconds or less, otherwise it just gets in the way of browsing because in order to clean properly you need to have your browser and programs closed...
The other downside to programs like this is that most systems are set to go into sleep mode after a few minutes, so even if the user was diligent enough to set time aside the program would stop because the system went into a power savings mode and the process would stop...
If they had a feature built in that would disable all power management features when it started and re-enabled power management when it finished would be cool, like Cleanup Mode...
The thing of it is programs like this are bloatware and eventually slow down your system more than it helps your system and in the end just causes corruption...
The best solution for what's out there already would be a service management center where you associate your programs with that keeps a date and time of when you last used these programs...
You would still use your proven software solutions, all the management center does is provide a warning that it's time to clean/scan and a link inside the program that opens each program for you one at a time and in an order that they should be ran...
The program would not run as a service and would not run at startup, this way your keep your system running as fast as it can without some service slowing it down...
Don't buy into crapware programs like Scanguard that use a pop-up on a web page to get you interested in it, that's the first sign of a bad program...
There are much better products on the market and much better malware solutions as well that are proven...
You have to take security very seriously and to do that you need to let a program run their course and maybe after two years in the market you can take another look at them to see how they are doing, otherwise stay with the proven methods that have been protecting you and your family for years...
