Windows is Reserving a copy of Windows 10 for you for free...thank you???
Exactly, if you have ever upgraded with Windows before, you'll know that it's not always the best solution.
Now with 8.1 we don't feel that you'll see much of a difference when you upgrade to 10 and you should upgrade without any doubt or fear, but Windows 7 and Vista Users you should take this more seriously.
The Surface Pro 3 is built on x86 technology so not much has changed in that respect for hardware, but in a way it has...
We don't recommend going from Vista or 7 to Windows 10, it won't work as good as it could.
The first thing to think about is that, 8.1 and 10 and anything past will all have touchscreen technology, and more than likely 7 and Vista users you don't have a touchscreen, so you lose the best part of it right there.
sidenote: Oh Yeah, it has a Stylus :-P
If MS is upgrading Vista, would not be recommended, but if you must on either one 7 or Vista think of this...
1. UNINSTALL YOUR MALWARE PROGRAMS FIRST!!!
2. Make sure your Operating system is completely up to date both Important Updates and Optional.
3. Have drivers nearby just in case, so download those before you start any install. ex. Video Card, Network card, Sound Card...
sidenote: Well If it's going to work like it should then MS should be doing all the Hardware Upgrades for you...:-D yeah, that should be interesting ;-)
...BACKUP BACKUP THEN BACKUP AGAIN...Backup up your data!!!
4. Remove any program that you don't want anymore.
5. The programs you are keeping make sure they are compatible with the New OS, by emailing them directly before you start your install.
6. You could do a Defrag before and after, but if anything, definitely after, but preferred before and after...
7. Run CCleaner or MS Disk Cleanup...
...upgrade...
Be prepared for mass hysteria with the Windows Vista and 7 users, but 8.1 users should be more prepared.
As for you 8.1 users these rules apply to you also, they have malware programs for 8.1 and they will have for 10, so best to load new fresh clean malware programs...and that's a fact!
Windows 7 and Vista users, look at it this way, the best you're going to get w/out a Touchscreen monitor won't be as close to the good thing you have now, even if you did upgrade to a touchscreen.
sidenote: Vista Users, there's a better world, so if you're light users it would be recommended to just buy new and go to 10...that is if MS keeps that name on release date ;-)
More than likely your hardware is in need of an upgrade and more than likely it does, because everyone has been in a hold pattern with what MS was going to do.
In a nutshell...3 years would be as far back as we would go with hardware.
Windows 10 was built around the hardware and is different to what most of you have worked with and that is the "Tower" computer and this thought needs to be forgotten...
Start thinking about using your resources better and start outputting to Televisions and Walls and Countertops and anywhere you can see a picture, read text, watch a movie, play a game...
The Microsoft Surface will do all of these things, but what we are waiting for is Intel and a new lineup of CPU's...
So the first batch of Hardware they'll release will be boring, but the second or third wave more towards November should be better, which will work in the time table of MS releases.
Windows 10 is coming out in stages and not all features will be released with the first wave, which should tell you that improved performance is just around the corner.
Don't be a Jones, let the Jones be the Beta Testers, you wait, so hold on, you know we are.
