Windows 10 Nagware Alert Removal...

Open up Control Panel and go to Programs and Features, then Uninstall a Program...

Once in Uninstall a Program click on View Installed Updates over to the left...

Once there, copy this KB3035583 and paste it into Search Installed Updates or just type it in Search Installed Updates...

Once it finds this file choose Uninstall...reboot required and the GWX.exe nagware alert to update to Windows 10 is gone.

This is for Windows 7 users that don't want to upgrade to 10.

**UPDATE**

Depending if you applied this fix to late you'll notice that the Icon will come back again.

You need to create a Registry Entry to remove it permanently:

Open up regedit.exe using the Start search or by hitting WIN + R and pasting it into the field. Then browse down to the following key, or if it doesn't exist create a new Key (folder) call it Gwx.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx

Once you are there and or created a Key you'll need to create a new 32-bit DWORD value on the right-hand side named DisableGwx, and give it a value of 1.

**UPDATE**

This only prevents seeing the alert, not your ability to upgrade. When you are ready to upgrade just go to Microsoft's Website... http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade

  1. Thank you! The nagware is gone but I received a "you must restart" pop-up on both my 64 bit DELL and 32 bit ASUS and I did restart... Asus Al :-)

    1. We didn't, so it may be associated to something else, but the end result hopefully removed the nagware ;-)

    2. It's gone but watch out, they tried to sneak it back as a Windows Upgrade.
I hid it! Asus Al :-))

  2. Nice Work, but I disable my updates until I am ready to update which is after the 2nd Tuesday of every month. I thought they might try to sneak it back on and thanks for the update I will check to see if it comes back 8/11/15 or 8/12/15 or 8/13/15... ;-)

  3. While working on another Win 7 system I noticed that KB3035583 did come back and was in the "Important" update section. Just right click on it and say "Hide Update" and it will not come back unless you "Restore Hidden Update" ;-)
